Happy Weekend

Oops It's been a long time since I've blogged. Things have been pretty hectic at home with my eldest daughter applying to colleges. But here we are back again, ready to roll. Its raining here in Boston so these pretty parasols would come in handy for getting around. If nothing else, they would certainly brighten this dreary day. This weekend I am going to the Paradise City Arts fesitival in Marlborough. I hope to bring back some interesting photos of the event to share. I hope you have a great weekend.....this being the last weekend before the holiday season kicks into full swing. Cheers!

Rainy day inspirations

Today is a rainy day and I'm feeling the need for some color infused inspirations. These are random images from Flickr. I've always been a sucker for the geomtric and the orderly, except when it comes to my office! It must be the accountant in me getting my ledgers to line up straight.
Enjoy the day..............

The Eyes Have It

A few weeks ago my sister's step son got married. I asked her about the dress she chose to wear and she had a funny story. Apparently she found a gray dressed she loved and before buying it she asked the mother of the bride about her dress. The mother of the bride said her dress was mauve. Well, my sister figured mauve and gray would make a lovely combination and proceeded to purchase her dress. On the day of the wedding everyone showed up looking fabulous except there was one glitch. Not only did my sister and the mother of the bride end up in the same dress, it was the same color! What had been described as mauve was really gray.

So let this be a lesson that for all the cones and rods in our eyes that define color sometimes gray is gray and so is another color................

Think Pink

As I'm sure you all know now, October is breast cancer awareness month and Mrs. Blandings has come up with a great idea for posting pink inspirations this month so here are a few more thrown into the pot.....

Do One Thing Everyday That Scares You

Eleanor Roosevelt said "Do One Thing Everyday that Scares You" and I was reminded of this by Jessie over at Diary of a Self-Portrait http://ravenn.blogspot.com/2007/09/living-adventurously.html. This got me thinking about the fears we all carry around and how do you put them aside. Whether these fears stem from an emotion or a physical concern or is financial in nature, how do you conquer them? Through baby steps or full on assault? I suppose everyone is different. My biggest fear is starting my color consulting business and not getting it off the ground. A friend said to me yesterday that it was like a hobby for me right now and as much as I don't want to hear that she is right. I don't want this to be something I fool around with, its not in my nature to dabble - what is stopping me? What am I afraid of?

Today is the day.....

Fall

Happy Fall to all.......there is a smell in the air that is distinct this time of year. This got me thinking about memories and how powerful they can be. They say olfactory memory is the strongest, I'm not sure why but is there no one who can recall smells of their childhood with very little prompting? Whether its the smell of home cooking, Grandma's perfume or leaves burning these are scents that bring back a particular time in our lives.

Color can also produce the same effect. How about Avocado Green and Harvest Gold? Can anyone forget going to a friend or relative's house and having a snack in the kitchen proudly wearing these colors? Ever listen to 45's while lounging on a shag rug of Burnt Orange and Sienna Brown? Color and color combinations evoke feelings that are both profound and very personal.

What comes to mind when you drive down the road and catch the first turning of leaves? Does it bring back memories long stored away and forgotten? Open you eyes today...........

Memoirs of a Geisha

This morning as I was getting ready for the day, the movie Memoirs of a Geisha came on TV. Although I have seen this movie several times and adore it, this time I saw it with a different eye. It was like watching a kaleidescope of color.....vibrant kimonos, pale blossoms, darkness as well as light around each corner. I forgot how beautiful this movie was.

Chapter One

For the past several months I have contemplated creating a blog but there are so many talented people out there blogging that I wondered if I had enough to say? Did I have anything to say that hasn't already been said? Let's take this one entry at a time. First off, I love love love color in all forms - textiles, paper, photos...you name it. I don't remember exactly when this love affair started, who really cares but what I love about it is that each person has a different response to color . What rocks one person can turn another's stomach. It's very visceral, very personal and can be very intimidating. My goal is to get people thinking about color and what it means in their lives.

Thanks for visiting. See you soon.
